  • 1)  Proper food storage is the first way to prevent obtainment of Salmonella: Keep food refrigerated a temperatures between 30 and 40 Fahrenheit.

  • 2)  Make sure all food remains cold: Reminder, when eating at an out door event, keep all cold foods refrigerated until time of use.  This will prevent build up of Salmonella Bacteria.

  • 3) * Washing and Cleanliness: Always wash your hands, utensils and counter tops with warm soap and water after dealing with raw meats. Also Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the seasoning. This will help prevent contamination of your poultry and the possibility of salmonella poisoning.

  • 4)  Washing Vegetables: Vegetables purchased at local food markets or stores can be infected by bacteria, when fields are irrigated by untreated waste water.  To prevent Salmonella obtainment from vegetables, wash or soak vegetables in water for several minutes before eating.
  • 5)  Remember to properly cook meats:  Cook beef at 155 degrees and chicken at 180 degrees to kill the bacteria that causes salmonella, if your meat is contaminated.  Bacteria of that sort cannot survive at such high temperatures.

  • 6)  Smell the food:  If foods such as milk, cheeses, etc have a horrid odor, don't eat them.  It is better to rid these substances from your household than taking the risk of inducing them into your body and obtaining salmonella.
